What to do once you have seen the doctor — paying, and getting your medicine.
💳 Payment
- After the consultation, pay at the cashier (수납) counter, usually near the entrance. Most clinics take cards; some take cash only.
- The bill covers the consultation and any tests or procedures. Medicine is paid for separately, at the pharmacy.
- With Korean health insurance you pay only your share. Without it, foreigners pay the full amount.
- Have a card or cash ready, and ask which is accepted if you are not sure.
💡 Always ask for an itemized receipt (진료비 세부내역서). You need it to claim reimbursement from your insurer; an English medical certificate may also be required, so request it at the desk.
💊 Pharmacy & prescription
- In Korea, hospitals and pharmacies are separate. You collect medicine at a pharmacy (약국), not at the hospital.
- Take the prescription (처방전) you were given to a nearby pharmacy — there is usually one close to the clinic.
- The pharmacist prepares your medicine and you pay there. A prescription is valid for a few days.
- Follow the dosage: before or after meals, how many times a day, and for how many days. Finish the whole course.
